Church at Christ the King

We joined Christina and Derek Archer at their church for church this morning. It felt like home. 🙂 It was actually so much like our church that it seemed we were completely comfortable there. The girls were super tired, but went to the nursery for the duration of church.

The church itself is in an old Best store and is setup much like a movie theatre, with the same type of seats. It’s about 5x (maybe more) bigger than our church and had an attendance of 2295 last week. It would be awesome if LifePointe got that big! Wow!

Derek was the worship leader. He can really sing! Their pastor was relatively young, late 30s and very eloquent. Reminded me a lot of Greg (our Lead Pastor).

The band consisted of two guitars and two additional hand held percussion instruments. According to Christina, this is unusual. At one point, they played a REALLY old hymn, I’ll Fly Away, which included an AWESOME banjo part! Yes, a banjo! My mom would have loved it. It was so moving. 🙂

Unforunately, someone in the church recently died and they talked about it some and Joseph got all emotional about not wanting to die. We’re talking crying and practically sobbing. All the sudden he got it in his head about dying. Go figure. In any case, he got over it after a while. It was a big deal though because people were looking back at him… probably thinking he was sad due to this specific person’s death.

Then, of course, our “emergency — come get your kid” number showed up on their system. Emily was sobbing and crying inconsolably… she was super tired. Abby was sound asleep. I guess Emi just couldn’t fall asleep. But the people were walking her around and trying to help her, she just needed Mommy. She was even in that sniff, pause, breath, sniff phase of crying that is so sad and cute at the same time.

So, all in all, church was awesome!
