I met with Jan Hargrove, Principal at Turner Creek Elementary today and based on his ITBS score, the tutoring he has now, his work completed in the last year and the assessment done by our tutor, she believes he is in fact ready for 3rd grade.
We discussed his “mental health” and our ability to get him back in with the licensed social worker again if need be (which we will if need be) as well as how he’s grown over the last 6-8 months.
We discussed that he’s excited about track 4 because Sarah and Daniel are on track 4. We talked about strategies for helping him and having some ongoing tutoring in 3rd grade (our decision). He’ll be evaluated for ALP and if he needs it, they’ll potentially include him in that program.
She remembers Joseph from kindergarten and 1st grade and said she really wants to see him succeed. She didn’t seem worried, irritated or anything about him coming to her school. I even asked if a certain young lady went to Turner Creek and she said ‘no’. We talked about that and how recently when Joseph saw her at Qdoba, I asked him how he felt and he said “You know, she wasn’t very nice so I don’t want to think about her.” Woohoo! He has grown!
So, he’ll continue his tutoring through July, miss the first week of school and walk right into 3rd grade with Ms. Bowers. Here goes nothing! ๐
