No felt paper beneath hardwoods

When I talked with Jeremy from Lee’s Hardwoods, after the hardwoods were ripped up, to discuss the moisture, he said the black stuff I saw was probably the felt/tar paper they put under the hardwoods as a moisture barrier.

Ron told me then that he didn’t see any of that.

Then, when Daniel came out last week, he looked at that wet area and said the same thing. Daniel assured us it was there. 99% sure is what he said. Guess he was wrong!

Last night, when we were ripping up some of the last few boards, we didn’t see any. This morning, the guys are back and told Ron there wasn’t any at all.

This is the foyer and shows the floor exactly as it was under the hardwoods. No paper.

Since I bleached the area in the dining room, nearly all the black stuff went away, so we’re no longer worried about mold. I bleached the window sill, floor boards, baseboard, studs, everything, so it’s clear.

Unfortunately, the area behind where the toilet was is soaked and the board is buckling, so we’re going to have to let that dry for a while… probably a week. 🙁 Perhaps if there was in fact paper it wouldn’t have been a problem! One more thing to yell at Westminster homes about! Ugh.
