Mold test in progress

I bought a home-based, mold test kit from Home Depot. I wanted to be sure there was no mold on the floorboards as I am not convinced one way or the other at this point.

So I opened the kit and there are three options. The first option is swab the area and send it in for a result in a few weeks for $30! This was supposed to be a HOME-BASED KIT! No where on the package does it say it has to be sent it. Argh. And, you had to be sure it was mold it you used this one. Isn’t that what I’m testing for?!?!?

The 2nd option was to put the petri-dish over an air vent and to CLOSE ALL OTHER VENTS IN THE HOUSE for AN HOUR! I don’t think so!

The 3rd option was to leave it open in the area where mold was suspected then let it grow (or not) for 48 hours. This is the option I chose. So, I put it down on the floorboard where I’d sprayed the bleach a few days ago. I followed the directions as they said, but one additional thing it suggested was to use TWO test kits and to do an air sample from outside too for comparison.

There is good mold and bad mold. If we have mold growth, I would have to send it in (see option #1) to test what kind of mold it is. Ugh. And, they’d recommend I send the one from outside for comparison in the lab, too and $60 (or $90 if I want the results faxed back quicker).

What a rip off! I still ran it to see, but I’m banking on no mold so I can stop with the stupid kit. 🙁
